Wind Power Helps Germany’s Renewable Electricity Consumption Grow Every Year

Renewable energy sources have covered a 43% share of electricity consumption in Germany last year – showing a steady increase from previous years towards the nation’s 65% share goal by 2030.

The report, assessed by the Centre for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research Baden-Württemberg and the German Association of Energy and Water Management, specifies that solar, wind and other renewable energy sources generated over 244 billion kilowatt hours in 2019, with onshore wind power contributing the largest share.

The total amount of electricity produced – rather than consumed – last year, including power exported across Germany’s borders, has renewables accounting for around 40% of energy sources.
