Global Alliance Pushes New Momentum for Clean Energy Transition

Colombia has brought together more than 50 countries to launch a new global coalition to accelerate the transition away from fossil fuels and advance cleaner energy systems.

“This is the moment in which history is going to split,” said Irene Vélez Torres, Colombia’s minister of environment and sustainable development.

The initiative gathers 54 countries representing about one-third of global fossil fuel demand, including both major economies and climate-vulnerable nations, to coordinate action beyond traditional summits. Renewable energy continues to expand, with solar generation rising 14% and wind 8%, while fossil fuel dependence is increasingly linked to economic volatility and conflict. By focusing on cooperation, financing, and practical transition pathways, the coalition aims to accelerate global progress towards stable, sustainable energy systems.
