Environment FranceCountries Promise Green Climate Fund More Billions to Protect Our Earth
The Green Climate Fund, established by the United Nations, has received 9.8 billion dollars in new pledges from wealthy countries – exceeding the commitments from the first pledging conference in 2014 – in a drive to help poorer countries better tackle climate issues.
“We are very excited because we should be able to prevent a lot of climate hurt” with the additional funds, says executive director Yannick Glemarec to the Thomson Reuters Foundation.
The organization noted that the fund will remain open for more contributions, to help developing countries who rely heavily on public funding to meet sustainable goals. Glemarec explains that the Green Climate Fund is key to help shift policies and show private investors – who mostly invest in developed nations – that good investments are possible in developing countries as well.
