Animals United KingdomHappy Crows: Best Breeding Season Yet!
A record number of Cornish Coughs attempted to breed in Cornwall this year.
“It’s been another amazing year for our Chough. […] Our hardy birds carried on despite the rain and still fledged over 100 chicks, an impressive result,” says Hilary Mitchell from Cornwall Birds.
After 28 years of absence, the year 2001 saw the return of the Chough in Cornwall. Recent statistics reveal that the 2024 breeding season was the best yet, with 108 young. Unfortunately, the bird is still under the threat of egg collectors, and a swarm of volunteers monitors and protects its nests across Cornwall. Estimated numbers for the species now stand at well over 300 individuals across the county.
