Environment TaiwanHere, Rooftop Solar Panels Are Becoming a Must
Taiwan has passed an amendment requiring all newly built, expanded, or renovated structures reaching a certain size threshold to install rooftop solar panels.
The amendment is part of Taiwan’s Renewable Energy Development Act which also regulates offshore wind power, hydropower, and geothermal energy sources. The overall goal of the act is to increase Taiwan’s reliance on renewable energy sources.
The solar panels will only be required on buildings that reach a certain size threshold, and owners will have the discretion to use the solar-generated electricity themselves or to sell it to power suppliers. The legislation has only just recently passed and the exact date that the amendment will take effect has not yet been announced.
