Carmaker Giant Bids Farewell to Fossil Fuels

In its quest to become climate-neutral by 2045, South Korean multinational automotive manufacturer Hyundai Motor announced that it will no longer sell combustion vehicles in Europe as of 2035, or in other large markets by 2040.

“Under the corporate vision of ‘Progress for Humanity’, Hyundai Motor is determined to do the right thing for the environment,” says Jaehoon Chang, president and CEO Hyundai Motor Company. “Climate change is an undeniable challenge that requires the greatest and most urgent attention of all.”

In 2023, Hyundai will introduce a hydrogen-powered multipurpose vehicle. The company aims at having 30% of its global sales in 2030 be vehicles that emit no emissions: battery electric cars and fuel cell cars. Long-term investments will be made in future technologies, including green hydrogen based on renewable energies, among others.
