Making History: Fastest Global Wealth Growth Ever Recorded

Global wealth grew by 12.7 percent in 2021, making it the fastest annual growth rate ever recorded in history.

Though 2021 marked a time of uncertainty, largely due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Credit Suisee Global Wealth Report shows that global wealth increased. Annually, the average growth hovers around 6.6 percent; however, 2021 surpassed the average.

The global middle class – with wealth between $10,000-$100,000 – has seen the largest rise of all. In 2000, there were around half of a billion people in this category; in 2021, 1.8 billion. The upper-middle class, with wealth between $100,000-$1,000,000, has also seen a significant rise. 208 million people were in this category in 2000. In 2021, 627 million people were represented by this category. Furthermore, it is predicted that middle-income countries will be the primary drivers of global wealth increases in the years to come.
