Society IndiaOne Click to Access 13,000 (Free!) Journals
The world’s largest deal between India and publishers will allow millions of students, faculty, and researchers to access 13,000 journals for free through a single portal.
Under the One Nation One Subscription scheme, “universities that aren’t so well funded, and can’t afford many journals, will gain,” explains Aniket Sule of the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education.
After two years of negotiations, the scheme will take effect on 1 January 2025. Over three years, Indian authorities will pay some $715 million to 30 global publishers, including Elsevier, Springer Nature, and Wiley. About 2,300 of the 6,300 government-funded institutions in India have subscriptions to 8,000 journals.
