Princess Anne and the Savior of the Togo Slippery Frog

A young African biologist, Princess Anne of Britain and a slippery frog are the characters in this tale. And it proves, how determination and ideas can make the world better.

It was a proud moment for Caleb Ofori-Boateng, the first formally trained amphibian biologist in Ghana, when British Princess Anne handed him the Environmental Hero Award in London’s Royal Geographical Society in London.

The Whitley Fund for Nature (WFN) has recognized the young biologist’s work to save a frog from extinction: The Togo Slippery Frog. The frog faces extinction threats from harvest, habitat loss, hunting and deforestation.

Ofori-Boateng and his team trained locals to raise awareness and to reduce the consumption of the frog. They also built a 60 square kilometer area to bring the species back. ‘If I didn’t do anything, nothing would been done. I had to do this.’, said Ofori-Boating.
