Soda Giant Helps Tackle Plastic Pollution by Cleaning Rivers

Coca-Cola has joined forces with The Ocean Cleanup, a technological non-profit organization, to clean up 15 rivers located around the world – kicking off with the Can Tho river in Vietnam – and tackle plastic pollution.

“We expect that this river cleanup project will make an important contribution to help the city improve the capacity and efficiency in waste collection, segregation and treatment; at the same time, prevent and thoroughly collect waste, especially plastic waste floating on some major river routes in the Can Tho city,” said Mr. Nguyễn Chí Kiên, Vice Director of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Can Tho city.

The Ocean Cleanup’s Interceptor™, a solar-powered robot that extracts marine debris, will be able to collect up to 50,000 kg of trash per day once fully operational. As part of the partnership, Coca-Cola will assist The Ocean Cleanup in Vietnam in seeking local support and developing management solutions for the waste collected.
