Solar Panels: Clean Energy You Can Count On

In the United States, the addition of household rooftop solar panels is expanding rapidly – both in an effort to decrease reliance on the power grid and to lower electricity costs.

Following a severe storm that knocked out much of the power grid in Texas, resident Kevin Lee explains, “I never wanted to go through something like that again, and having this [solar] really does make us feel safer when there are storms coming, whether they’re hurricanes or freezes.”

2022 is the biggest year to date for solar panel installations in the United States with an increase of about 5.3 gigawatts of residential solar power capacity. Though the initial cost of installing a home solar system can be upwards of $20,000, in the long run, solar panels save money compared to traditional gas or electric heating systems. What’s more, the recently passed Inflation Reduction Act allows for a $6,000 reduction on home solar panel installations.
