This Country Is Taking Major Steps to Protect Women and Children Against Rape

The President of Pakistan Dr. Arif Alvi took a huge leap in favor of women and children victims of sexual abuse by approving an anti-rape ordinance that results in major and rigorous reforms over trials, examination, and punishments.

“The two state of the art pieces of legislation are in line with the Constitutional guarantees of Pakistan, as [well as] the International treaties,” reads the statement issued by the law ministry about the Anti-Rape (Investigation and Trial) Ordinance.

Thanks to the new measures, courts now have to deal with cases of rape within no more than four months. In addition, the two-finger virginity testing for rape victims has finally been abolished for its inhumane and degrading nature, a national sex offenders’ registry will be created, and harsher punishments will be given for committing rape crimes. The new laws help sexual abuse victims to be able to come forward, be heard, and be better protected.
