You Want to Be My Sweetheart? Then Better Care for Climate Issues (Gen Z Says)

Two major dating sites, Tinder and OKCupid, have found that young users looking for love are seeking one major requisite: a common interest in tackling climate issues.

Tinder’s “Year in Swipe” report found that its Generation Z users – aged between 18 and 25 and described by spokeswoman Jenny Campbell as the “activism generation” – are more committed to a political cause or mission than the previous millennial generation who tends to bond more over their passion to explore the world. In fact, Gen Z daters were 66% more likely to bring up climate change and environmental issues in their profiles.

At OkCupid on the other hand, millennial users ranked slightly ahead of Gen Z on their engagement on climate issues, and both generations showed incredible interest in climate change.

“Climate change is one of the most talked about issues among young daters,” says OkCupid spokeswoman Melissa Hobley. “We’ve actually seen an 800% increase in mentions of Greta Thunberg on profiles around the world this year… so this is one dating trend we don’t expect to expire any time soon.”
