New therapy seems to have saved woman from cancer death.

The human body’s own immune system could be the force that can fight cancer successfully – and a woman who was prepared to die of late stage breast cancer now says: “I’m cured!”

Doctors say American Judy Perkins (51) was the first patient with this stage of breast cancer who has been successfully treated with a therapy using the body’s own immune system.

Immunotherapy uses billions of the patients immune cells to identify and destroy cancer cells. Before the experimental treatment, which will now go into clinical trial, Judy was treated with conventional chemotherapy – but the cancer kept on spreading through her body.

Scientists are excited about the findings – but at the same time state that the further research  will take time and any treatment will be costly in the beginning.
