Hundreds of stolen cats are rescued

More than 500 stolen cats have been rescued in a major police operation, reuniting dozens with their families and strengthening efforts to protect pets in Vietnam.

“Thankfully, these survivors escaped,” said Phuong Pham, Director of Humane World for Animals in Vietnam.

Police detained nine suspects after investigating a series of pet thefts in Ho Chi Minh City, rescuing more than 400 live cats from one location and 21 from another. More than 40 cats have already been reunited with their owners, while veterinarians and volunteers continue caring for the remaining animals, including kittens born after pregnant cats were rescued. The operation, one of the country’s largest cat welfare cases in recent years, has also increased public awareness of pet protection as Vietnam continues to strengthen animal welfare measures.
