Cancer rates and deaths have fallen substantially in Egypt, with prevention programmes and improved public health helping save thousands of lives.
“This improvement is not merely a statistic; it represents the thousands of lives saved and offers hope to millions of Egyptian families,” said Dr Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health and Population.
Between the 2022 and 2024 estimates, the standardised cancer death rate fell by 23.5% and the incidence rate by 17.2%, despite the population growing by about 9.8%. New cancer cases declined from around 150,600 to 137,400, while deaths fell from 95,300 to 80,500. Liver cancer recorded particularly strong progress, with deaths down 22.1%, reflecting efforts to eliminate hepatitis C, a major cause of the disease, alongside continued investment in prevention and early detection.
