Clean Energy Initiatives Bring Electricity to 308 Million People

Global clean energy initiatives have provided 308 million people with new or improved electricity access since 2021, while accelerating renewable energy expansion and creating green jobs worldwide.

“The scale of today’s energy challenges demands collective action. That is how individual commitments become aligned efforts, and aligned efforts become transformative progress,” says Amina J. Mohammed, United Nations Deputy Secretary-General.

Five years after the launch of the UN Energy Compacts, 164 voluntary commitments have helped install 338 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity and provide 36.2 million people with access to clean cooking. Electricity improvements at more than 17,200 healthcare facilities now benefit around 43 million people. The initiatives have also supported the deployment of 2.9 million electric vehicles, created 1.66 million green jobs and provided training to more than 837,000 people. Investment mobilised or deployed has nearly doubled since 2024, reaching $389 billion, reflecting growing international cooperation towards affordable and sustainable energy.
