Environment AustriaThis All-Access Ticket Encourages Public Transport Over Private Cars
Austria came up with a climate ticket to encourage its citizens to choose public transport over private cars to travel across the country in an efficient and climate-friendly way.
The unified yearly pass will cover public transportation such as buses, trams, cable cars, and even trains between cities. The government wishes to involve the population in the country’s quest for achieving the Paris climate accord targets.
The ticket works as a road tax, like drivers who obtain a vignette to use the roads for a certain amount of time. Valid for a year, the climate ticket costs €1,095 ($1,280), and the reduced price of €821 ($959) will be applied for people under the age of 26 and retirees.
