Bye-Bye, Coal: Clean Energy Is Finally Taking Over

Poland has made significant progress in its transition toward green energy.

Renewable energy sources made up 30.2 percent of the country’s electrical output over the first half of 2024. This nearly doubles Poland’s clean energy output levels compared to three years ago.

After a late start to the clean energy transition, Poland is now on par with the global average. The country, while seeing an increase in wind and solar energy, is also seeing a decline in fossil fuels, particularly coal, which has now dropped to 57.6 per cent – as of 2022, coal accounted for 70 per cent of Poland’s power generation. Though the trend is positive, experts warn that Poland is desperately behind on the necessary infrastructure to keep up with further reliance on clean energy. Should this transition continue, the country must work toward creating reliable reforms and investments that help support a green grid.
