Dolphin-Human Relationship Proves to be Good for Everyone!

A partnership between humans and dolphins that has existed for 150 years in Brazil was just proven to benefit not only humans but dolphins too.

“This study clearly shows that both dolphins and humans are paying attention to each other’s behavior and that dolphins provide a cue to when the nets should be cast,” explains Stephanie King, a biologist who studies dolphin communication at the University of Bristol in England.

The cue that the dolphins provide allows fishermen to catch migrating mullets which would otherwise be a difficult feat as the fish are tricky to catch. The study highlights that indeed the relationship is reciprocal, noting that dolphins benefit from taking advantage of disoriented fish after the fishers cast. “This is really incredible cooperative behavior,” adds King of the cultural phenomenon.
