Want to Turn Into a Tree After You Die? Check These Burial Options…

Traditional burial and cremation methods are environmentally toxic, meaning we may continue to hurt the planet with our carbon footprint after death. But new zero-waste alternatives are becoming available to help our bodies sustainably become a part of nature.

TV star Luke Perry, who passed away last year, had asked to be buried in an “eco-friendly mushroom suit” to allow for his body to biodegrade naturally.

“Any explanation I give will not do justice to the genius that is the mushroom burial suit, but it is essentially an eco-friendly burial option via mushrooms,” explains his daughter, Sophie Perry, on Instagram. “They are truly a beautiful thing for this beautiful planet, and I want to share it with all of you.”

As of this year, more zero-waste burial options have opened up, such as organic burial pods that are biodegradable and can turn, along with the body, to a tree. Biodegradable urns that also turn to trees are becoming available as well, including for pets.
