Corona: Shelter, Healthcare, and Food for Homeless Child Beggars

Authorities and charities have been sending thousands of homeless children in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to shelters since March, in an effort to limit the spread of the coronavirus outbreak.

Homeless children have had a much tougher time begging to survive on the streets amid the pandemic. But over 4,100 out of the 10,000 street children in Ethiopia’s capital city have been placed in shelters to date, with more to come as coronavirus cases continue to rise.

Those sent to shelters are fed, clothed, and provided with healthcare and counseling for an estimated three to six months before returning to their communities or reuniting with their families.
