First-Ever Lung Cancer Vaccine, a Public Health Milestone

A vaccine to treat lung cancer is now administered in Andalusia, Spain, following a successful trial of this type of treatment in patients with melanoma, thus giving hope to patients suffering from this aggressive and deadly cancer.

“Today Andalusian public health has a larger budget, more professionals with better working conditions and more investment in infrastructures”, as stated by Juanma Moreno’s government.

The Virgen Macarena University Hospital in Seville, the capital and largest city of the Spanish autonomous community of Andalusia, is the first health establishment to put into practice the use of this new treatment against lung cancer. Indeed, the first patient in the country will receive a vaccine that will provoke an immune response through messenger RNA, already known for its efficacity in the COVID-19 vaccine. Moreno’s government is making public health a priority, investing $14.86 million in 2023 – 40.58% more than in 2019.
