Society AustraliaMajor Drop in ALL Crime Rates in the Land Down Under
The crime rate in Australia saw a steady increase for some three decades. But since 2001, the tables have turned and the country has been looking at a sharp decline in all categories of crime.
Since 2001, crime rates have started to go down instead of up. By 2017, robbery had declined by a whopping 71%, breaking-and-entering by 68%, car theft by 70%, and other theft by 43%. The rate of murder had halved, attempted murder saw a 70% drop and overall homicide dipped by 59%.
Since the decline in homicide has been in gun deaths, gun regulation must have played a role. A rise in alcohol prices led to a decrease in alcohol abuse among young people, which seems to have therefore led to a decline in assaults. Crime rates and unemployment tend to follow the same trajectory, and as of late, inflation has been low, real wages have gone up and unemployment has declined.
