Refugees Can Be Portuguese for a Few Weeks Now to Benefit from Healthcare

Portugal is giving all asylum seekers and migrants full access to healthcare by granting temporary citizenship, to help better tackle the spread of the novel coronavirus across the nation.

The country is giving full citizenship rights until the end of June, according to the Portuguese Council of Ministers, to those whose applications with the Portuguese immigration are currently pending.

The decision comes in the middle of the COVID-19 lockdown in an effort to “reduce the risks for public health” for both the border agents at the immigration office and the migrants and asylum seekers.
