The Queen Says Goodbye to Fur

Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom is going fur-free – a compassionate move that is both animal and environment friendly – and will be switching to faux fur as she upgrades her winter wardrobe.

According to Fur Free Alliance, the fur industry is not only incredibly cruel to animals, but live-trapping wild animals for fur decreases biodiversity and fur farming – including dyeing fur – is toxic to the environment.

The Queen’s dressmaker, Angela Kelly, says in her book The Other Side Of The Coin: The Queen, The Dresser And The Wardrobe, “If Her Majesty is due to attend an engagement in particularly cold weather, from 2019 onwards fake fur will be used to make sure she stays warm.”

This move is expected to inspire her followers, as fur becomes less popular in the fashion industry, with major brands such as Prada and Versace going completely fur-free.
