Society United KingdomCorona: Solidarity, Kindness, and Scientific Progress Continue
From applauding healthcare workers to partaking in selfless acts of kindness, people across the world have shown hope and solidarity despite the social distancing caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
Staying at home isn’t stopping many from finding ways to help in times of need. In Spain, for example, tens of thousands of letters were sent to those hospitalized by the coronavirus, according to El Pais, after a doctor’s online request to put a smile on those affected by the virus.
People have also been putting up photos of rainbows on their windows and balconies as a sign of optimism, reports the BBC. And residents across the world are also opening their doors and windows to collectively applaud and show appreciation for the doctors, nurses and other workers putting themselves on the frontline of the fight against the crisis.
And while the world is working on keeping positive spirits up in times of confinement, scientific progress continues, adds the BBC. March, for example, showed promising research reports about the genetic code of the virus: Scientists have observed few mutations of this novel coronavirus, which, if validated, could mean a single vaccine would be sufficient to give people durable immunity.
