This High-Tech Electric Boat Promises Zero Noise and Zero Pollution

Following a 16-month development process, a Swedish tech company based in Stockholm revealed the latest version of its long-awaited electric boat designed to lift off and fly above the water without making a sound.

“Candela C-8 is designed to do away with all the bad aspects of powerboating: no slamming, no harmful wake, no pollution, no maintenance, no noise, and no more expensive trips to the fuel dock,” says Candela’s head of PR, Mikael Mahlberg. “It’s just a smooth, silent, and fun ride. This will be a pivotal moment for electric boats.”

The C-8 prototype P-01 hydrofoil speedboat — offering a long all-electric range and high speed — first reaches a takeoff speed of 16 knots, then a cruising speed of 20 knots. The 8.5-meter boat has a large cockpit that fits 8 people, a large sunbed, a front cabin equipped with beds for two adults and two children, and a marine toilet. The company plans on bringing the technology it developed to mass production by delivering 400 units per year from 2024 onwards.
