As part of the Democrats’ ambitious climate agenda – and once a crucial electoral promise – the American government is launching the American Climate Corps, a program destined to guide the country toward a cleaner, greener future.
The inaugural members of the American Climate Corps promised to work “on behalf of our nation and planet, its people, and all its species, for the better future we hold within our sight.”
As part of the American Climate Corps – a modern version of the Civilian Conservation Corps, the New Deal-era project that put 3 million men to work, planting trees and building national parks – some 9,000 people will be deployed to take on different environmental projects like restoring landscapes and erecting solar panels. By the end of the program’s first year, more than 20,000 young people are expected to join the program, and new openings will appear on the Corps’ job site in the coming months. Younger voters support climate action, with more than three-quarters of younger Americans from both sides of the political spectrum wanting the United States to take steps to address climate change.
