UN Security Council Has One Voice for Once. “Let the Guns Be Silent”, It Says.

All 15 members of the United Nations Security Council have adopted a resolution which demands a total and immediate ceasefire in order to focus on the efforts to fight COVID-19.

The humanitarian pause is set to be for at least 90 consecutive days to ensure that humanitarian assistance and provisions are safely delivered to the most vulnerable populations, but also to enable any medical evacuations required.

The Council requests that the response to the COVID-19 pandemic be accelerated in countries affected by armed conflicts or humanitarian crisis. It also calls for concrete efforts to ensure the full, equal and meaningful participation of women and youth as they play a key role in the efforts to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
