From Kindergarten to Graduation: Kids in New Jersey Now Have “Climate Change” in School

For the first time in the United States of America, New Jersey’s State Board of Education has implemented new guidelines that will require students to learn about climate change from kindergarten all the way through graduation.

According to officials, this makes New Jersey the first state to include climate change in its K-12 education standards.

“This generation of students will feel the effects of climate change more than any other, and it is critical that every student is provided an opportunity to study and understand the climate crisis through a comprehensive, interdisciplinary lens,” says New Jersey’s first lady Tammy Murphy, who met with 130 educators across the state to push the new guidelines forward.

The new learning standards will take effect over the next two years, covering seven subject areas: 21st Century Life and Careers, Comprehensive Health and Physical Education, Science, Social Studies, Technology, Visual and Performing Arts, and World Languages.
