Hidden Treasure Found, Revealing a Thriving Undisturbed Forest!

A massive sinkhole has been discovered in the south of China. Within it lies a primitive and amazingly well-preserved forest with its own ecosystem and biodiversity, giving us a unique insight into how nature thrives without the intervention of humans.

“I wouldn’t be surprised to know that there are species found in these caves that have never been reported or described by science until now,” says Chen Lixin who led the expedition down the cave in the autonomous region of Guangxi Zhuang.

The cave exploration team took an hour to get to the bottom of the massive karst sinkhole that measures 306 meters long, 150 meters wide, and 192 meters deep. The geological wonder is caused by a partially dissolved bedrock and is characterized by an absence of natural drainage. The sinkhole is home to ancient trees 40 meters high and “dense shade plants” reaching an adult’s shoulders.
