India Is Steadily Increasing Its Renewable Energy Capacity

India is heeding towards a steady increase in renewable energy resources: by the end of last year, renewables accounted for nearly 36% of the nation’s total power capacity mix – and it’s expected to keep getting higher!

Data from India’s Central Electricity Authority and the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy showed progress in renewable energy capacity additions, as non-renewable sources – such as coal and gas – have seen a dip in power usage between 2018 and 2019.

Renewable energy – including solar, wind, and hydropower – accounted for about 133.2 gigawatts (GW) in 2019, an 8.5% rise from the year before. India is expecting to keep increasing its renewable capacity, aiming for an upgrade to 450 GW in the next decade.
