This Country Is Making the Switch to Green Electricity

As part of an ambitious initiative to provide electricity to its 25 million citizens, Nigeria is decentralizing its power supply to grant everyone access to cheap renewable power sources.

The Solar Power Naija programme, designed by the Rural Electrification Agency, intends to create 5 million connections to 5 million households, thus proving electricity to all citizens across the country. In the Jangefe community, 1,000 solar home systems have been installed to power with clean energy its population of 5,000 people.

Upon completion, the entire 36 states and Abuja, the country’s capital, will be electrified. The government assures that structures have been put into place to make sure connections are affordable for all communities.
