Animals European UnionAnimal Welfare During Transport Gets Spotlight Attention
Members of the European Parliament are calling for the respect of animal welfare during the transport of live animals across the European Union, in a drive to end animal cruelty and inhumane practices.
“Animal welfare during transport is non-negotiable and must be respected until the animals reach their final destination,” says Daniel Buda, member of the European Parliament, Romania.
The European Parliament members have adopted recommendations in January – 557 in favor, 55 against, and 78 abstentions – including but not limited to limiting journey duration for domestic animals, adding closed-circuit television cameras in transport vehicles, and better controlling the transport of animals to non-EU countries.
