50 Countries Join Forces to Protect Our Planet’s Land and Ocean

50 countries have united to protect a third of Earth’s land and ocean by 2030 in order to prevent mass extinctions and to ensure the natural production of clean air and water.

“We have an enormous opportunity at this year’s biodiversity conference in China to forge an agreement to protect at least 30% of the world’s land and ocean by 2030,” announces Zac Goldsmith, environment minister of the United Kingdom, one of the countries that are part of the High Ambition Coalition (HAC) for Nature and People. “I am hopeful our joint ambition will curb the global decline of the natural environment, so vital to the survival of our planet.”

The announcement of the pledge to protect at least 30% of the planet by the end of the decade was made at the One Planet Summit held in Paris where they discussed such topics as the biodiversity crisis and agroecology benefits.
